Our Mission at Project ABLE
Project ABLE (A Better Life Experience) provides peer-to-peer services and supports for individuals recovering from mental health and co-occurring challenges.
These supports and services embrace human dignity, recognize the capacity for individuals to recover, and promote life-long empowerment.
WHAT IS PEER SUPPORT?
Those struggling with any mental health or co-occurring issue often feel extremely alone. Clinical care can address disease symptoms, but does little to relieve the debilitating sense of isolation.
Peer Support provides hope. By connecting one-on-one with a Peer who has experienced and overcome the same challenges, people with mental health issues can take the first steps toward achieving a more fulfilling life.
Our History
Our founders developed a pilot project in 2001 to offer Peer Support to Marion County residents with mental health & co-occurring issues.
An overwhelming success, the pilot lead to the creation of Project ABLE in 2003, which became the first non-profit organization approved by the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) to provide Peer Support Specialist Training.
Today, our volunteers support hundreds of individuals in six Oregon counties. Peers from all walks of life attend the many available activities on our two campuses.
“The great thing about our journey of recovery is that it can be whatever we want it to be.”
-Nancy Snider, Founding Director
“Having someone who can empathize, instead of sympathize, is crucial. And that’s what we’re able to provide here everyday.”
-Rebecca Eichhorn, Founding Director

HOW IT WORKS
-
Anyone with a mental health challenge of any kind can receive Peer Support.
-
Simply contact Project ABLE by phone, email, or in-person at either of our two locations.
-
If you request a peer, you will be paired with someone with shared experiences who can relate to your issues – because they have experienced them as well.
The Peer Support you receive is shaped only by your vision of recovery; defined by you and centered around you.
Project ABLE serves adults (individuals over the age of 18) who are, or have ever been, recipients of mental health services and/or who have been isolated due to other chronic health and wellness conditions.
Project ABLE offers services to residents of Marion, Polk, and Yamhill counties.
